Charlie Tweed

Charlie Tweed’s video, text and performance based works interrogate the affective qualities of digital technologies and their use in the control and management of populations and environments. He employ strategies of re-appropriation and speculative fiction, often taking on personas of anonymous collectives and hybrid machines, to outline subversive plans for enhancing and escaping control mechanisms and renegotiating relations between human and non human.

Opovarak

“OPORAVAK” proposes a methodology for what it calls “information recovery” and the solving of “integrity problems”. Taking its inspiration from data recovery solutions and the language of achieving “complete visibility” via forms of HD technology and big data, the film is part alternative software training video and part the voice of a subversive hybrid machine. It takes the intent of information restoration into a new context with its apparent ability to manipulate all sorts of digital and non-digital materials via its sentient interface and performative actions which apparently can operate at molecular level.

Contemporary society can be seen as a technologically democratic but what lies under this means of personal and democratized production of images? What we call power (political apparatus) can not be no longer identified by the production itself. The 'ruling strategy' of contemporary society is not through the creation of images itself but by bombarding the consciousness through the images that we can not no longer tell the veracity of it. By making the world and its representations (images) impossible to be verified as 'ground' of the reality, ruling strategy is to divide the indiviuals subjectivity into differences and categorise identities into its differences. Categorising through quantified differences and identities is the basis of this ruling apparatus that functions through constant exclusion. Ruling is now back to its classic, 'divide and rule', in this tactical ruling, bodies (physical human entities) are obliged to consume and live on which is purely physical.
